This is my first movie analysis, the movie is called 'The rite' and its a thriller horror.

The first movie I will be looking at is 'The Rite' 2011, directed by Mikael Hafstrom and Produced by Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson based on the book 'The Rite: the making of  a modern exorcist' by Matt Baglio. It was distributed by Warner Bros and released on the January 28th 2011. The first three minutes of this film shows a character who I assume is one of the main characters, at the beginning this character is demonstrating their job. This demonstration creates this atmosphere and this atmosphere give the audience a feel of what kind of genre it is (which is thriller horror), it also starts off with rhetorical questions so that it can get the audience members thinking and it has quotes from the highest power in the Christian church. It then fades in to a white screen where there's a extreme close up of doctors equipment and the room of which this equipment is in is well light with artificial light. this extreme close up pans out to reveal the equipment ant the setting.

This is one of the promotional poster that were distributed to the public couple months before the movie was released. The main image is Anthony Hopkins a very well known actor (which attracts the public to go see this movie because of they know him as a very good actor and well known for his skills in thrillers e.g as Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs)

This is the trailer for the movie, this trailer creates a different atmosphere to the opening scene. The opening created a atmosphere of a thriller and natural death but on a other hand it gave a hint of a biblical atmosphere, this is done when they character takes a look at the dead lady on his slab with a devil tattoo on her leg. the camera stays on the tattoo for a while so that the audience see what the character sees. compared to the trailer where the audience gets a biblical view of the movie, the trailer shows a young girl who is possessed by a demon taking a fancy to the character from the opening scene. if you watch the trailer before you see the opening scene you might be disappointed by the opening scene.
